My ridiculous fascination for Washi tapes begun in summer of 2013. It was also the time I started papercutting. I remember my mom asking, “so ano yan?” (So what’s that?) I’d be like, “papel po, parang ginugupit ko, pero hinihiwa ko. Art po ‘to ‘ma.” (It’s paper, it’s like cutting with scissors but I’m slicing it instead. This is art mom.) Lelz.

Our registration fee included all materials to get us started with papercutting such as paper, xacto knife, and rubber mat. We also picked 2 rolls of washi tapes from the endless designs that were available (yay!). We can also purchase additional washi tape rolls at a cheaper price during the workshop. Score!

Our work area itself is so motivating. There were artworks and crafty items all around us! We were also served yummy cookies and milk from Sweet Ecstasy, which happens to be one of my favorite spots in Quezon City.

We made coasters made of cork material decorated with papercut patterns and washi tapes. Here are our final products.

Mine was inspired by one of my favorite songs from The Beatles. It has a branch and leaves, with the word PRUDENCE. I used the washi tape with bird prints for the background.

I got a pretty trinket for winning the best papercut+washi art for that day. 😀

Thanks to Mansy of Hey Kessy for being an awesome teacher. It drove me to pursue it, and strive to be better at it whenever I have the time for some papercutting drills. And it made me a lot happier when I was able to use this new-found skill to contribute in helping for YolandaPH relief efforts. That’s another story. (;

Of course I showed off my new found skill and my coaster creation to Rom. (:
