The World is Your Oyster by Dragonfly Collector 2

Label: Lilystars Records

Year: 2015

Personal favorite/s: The Tragic Story of Joshua and Fiedme

This is the 1st album from the new moniker and solo project of Clem Castro, former vocalist of Philippine-based independent band The Camerawalls (2008-2012) and the commercially popular Orange and Lemons (1999-2007), as part of his celebration on his 10th year as a recording artist.

Originally used as a name for Clem’s personal blog of travels and poetry, Dragonfly Collector is an expression of his personality and musicality, with recent influences from The Decemberists and Fleet Foxes. Growing up with a dad who teaches folk guitar and rondalla, the tracks are subtly laced with similarly unconventional instruments such as a mandolin, ukulele, and accordion. His lyrics are predominantly inspired by his recent travels, like a very personal documentation of self-discovery. His intricate narratives add to the songs’ contemporary feel.

For a heavier and powerful melody, check out the tracks “The Tragic Story of Joshua and Fiedme” and “Darkness is My Candle.”

If you dig a gentler and more delicate tone, have a listen to “Someday, Someday, Maybe,” “Until the Cows Come Home (featuring Franki Love),” or “The Saddest Sound.” Dragonfly Collector’s tender voice makes this album a great recommendation for fans of The Smiths and The Beatles (yes!).
